What is Synthweaving?
There are six crafting skills in swtor and synthweaving is one that uses chemicals, crystals and artifacts to make light armor for the followers of the Force (jedi's). The archeology skill gives you the needed crafting resources for synthweaving, then you can reverse engineer crafted armor and discover new improved versions of it. Synthweaving is not really suitable for tanking because of their heavy armor but is ideal for a healing or dps jedi.
To use this skill to it's max underworld trading and archeology both give you the essential materials that you will need to make your items and get your synthweaving skills leveled up. Crystals and artifacts are obtained through archeology and underworld trading gives you the metal and fabric, so be sure and get underworld trading and archeology for your crew skills.

Here is a brief guide to what you need to make to level up in synthweaving followed by a cool video that shows some great tips.
Levels 1-400 Synthweaving.
1-40.
Savant Boots. Make these 25 times to get to level 40, these need rubat cystals which you will get from arceology missions.
40-80.
Rugged War Bracers. You need to make these constantly until you get no more points for making them, the only material needed for these is rubat crystals.
80-120.
Rugged War Waistcoats. If you are a synthweaver wearer you can wear these coats and making them is a fast way to get to level 120.
120-160.
Rugged War Boots. Just keep on making them until you get to 160, at times like this you can get a little bored but keep going it is worth it.
160-180.
Rigid Flex Belts. Again just keep on making them until you gety to level 180, you need to make 10 of them.
180-220.
Ceramic Alloy Gloves are the best way to get to the next level again make 10 of them.
220-260.
Ceramic Alloy Vest. I know it is a bit samey but keep going and make 10 of these.
260-300.
Focused Insight Handwraps. Using Galactic Artifact Fragment x 40, Firkrann Crystal x 20 and Brocart Filaments x 20 to craft 10 of these is next.
Ablative War Vest. These are the best thing to make to get to the next level but be warned materials now cost a LOT so start using some reverse engineering.
340-380.
Focused Battle Gear. Just craft this to reach 380.
380-400.
Memory Fibre Gear. Get to the highest level of synthweaving by making this, then look out for the galactic trade network where you can buy level 400 recipes to upgrade your gear hugely.
There are of course many ways to level up your synthweaver but I find these the fastest.
